Detoxing After the Holidays

You've enjoyed the hot cocoa & marshmallows, the goodies from your stocking, delicious desserts at Christmas parties, and more. If you're like me, you are probably starting to feel a little run-down and...blah!

I love Christmas and all the treats that come with it, but afterward, I feel as if I could sleep all day. The best way to get your body back in shape for the New Year is by doing a detox to remove all the toxins that have built up over the holidays as well as inflammation. I will be starting a 5-day juice detox after the New Year (Jan. 8) to refresh and renew. You are welcome to join me as I will be posting updates every day.


Here are the details:

Start date - January 8th, 2018

  • 5-day detox plan (if this is your first time detoxing, stick to only 3 days)

  • Shop for your ingredients ahead of time and prepare the ingredients for the day in the morning to help everything move smoothly throughout the day.

  • 6 smoothies are consumed each day

Special ingredients used:

  • Ginger - contains gingerol, which is antioxidant and anti-inflammatory

  • Avocado - high in fiber, good fats, minerals, and vitamins. It is also anti-inflammatory

  • Broccoli - rich source of essential nutrients, anticancer, and antioxidants that help the liver to detoxify and clean the blood

  • Cilantro - great for detoxifying the body of heavy metals

In between the meals:

  • Ginger tea will be drunk throughout the day (1 Tablespoon fresh ginger, boiled water, honey, and a squeeze of lemon)

  • Make sure you are staying hydrated with at least 6-8 cups of water per day

Daily plan:

8 am - Smoothie #1

  • 1 apple, peeled and cored

  • 1 fennel bulb

  • 1/4 cucumber

  • 1 avocado, peeled and pitted

  • A small handful of green grapes

Add all of the ingredients to the blender with 1/3 to 1/2 cup of filtered water. Blend until smooth.

High in iron, Aids in digestion, Mineral enhancing, Anti-inflammatory, and Diuretic

11 am - Smoothie #2

  • Juice of 1/2 lemon

  • Juice of 1/2 lime

  • A pinch of cayenne pepper

  • A thumb-sized piece of ginger

  • 1 teaspoon honey

Add all of the ingredients to the blender with 3/4 cup of filtered water. Blend until smooth, then pour into a sieve set over a bowl. Press the juice through with a wooden spoon or rubber spatula.

Metabolism boosting, Blood stimulating, Deep cleansing, Boosts immunity, and Alkalizing

1 pm - Smoothie #3

  • 2 handfuls of kale

  • A few sprigs of parsley

  • 1 kiwi fruit, peeled

  • 1 lime, peeled

  • 4 broccoli florets

  • A handful of green grapes

  • 1/2 teaspoon spirulina powder

Add all of the ingredients to the blender with 3/4 cup of filtered water. Blend until smooth, the pour into a sieve set over a bowl.

Blood purifying, Mood enhancing, and Infection fighting

3 pm - Smoothie #4

  • 1 carrot

  • 1 parsnip

  • 1 medium potato

  • 1 lemongrass stalk

  • 1 apple, cored

  • 1 lime, peeled

  • 10 cilantro sprigs

  • 1 tablespoon chia seed oil (or chia seeds)

Add all of the ingredients to the blender with 3/4 cup of filtered water. Bled until smooth, then pour into a sieve set over a bowl.

Liver cleansing, Digestion boosting, Antioxidant, and Cardiovascular health

5 pm - Smoothie #5

  • 5 broccoli florets

  • 1/4 small watermelon, peeled and seeded

  • 1/2 cantaloupe, peeled and seeded

  • A thumb-sized piece of ginger

Add all of the ingredients to the blender. Blend until smooth, then pour into a sieve set over a bowl.

Blood purifying, Hydrating, Mineral & vitamin enhancing, and Reduces inflammation

7:30 pm - Smoothie #6

  • 3 1/2 ounces of almonds

  • A thumb-sized piece of ginger

  • 1 teaspoon honey

Add all of the ingredients to the blender with 1 1/4 cups of filtered water. Blend until smooth, then pour into a sieve set over a bowl.

Calming, Healing, Muscle & bone building, and Boosts immune system

This detox is great for cleansing the digestive tract, boosting your vitamins and minerals, increasing circulation, boosting the immune system, and reducing inflammation.
